It’s great when passion and expertise collide. That’s what happened when Sarah Cathrae first heard about the Canoe Bay project. Sarah, the Managing Director of Suske Capital, which was charged with raising the funding for Canoe Bay, was able to combine her experience in the funding of retirement projects, with her unbridled enthusiasm for Canoe Bay.
Sarah grew up on Rideauview Terrace, close to the Canoe Bay property, and went to high school a few blocks from there. Her mom and stepdad still reside five minutes away, and her mom attends church beside the site. Sarah’s sister lives locally, her son goes to school with (Canoe Bay partner) Justin’s, and she is an active member of the Riverside Park community.
Since the neighbourhood is close to Sarah’s heart, she was pleased to work on the Request for Proposal for the site. “My team and I worked closely with Jim, Gary and Justin,” says Sarah “assisting with the request for proposal, the modeling, legal documentation, capital raise, marketing packages and the financing. I have a personal connection to this project and can envision what a vital part of the neighbourhood it can be.”
Though originally from Ottawa, Sarah relocated to the GTA in 2005. She and wife Laura have one son, Henry. Like Jim, one of the other partners, Sarah went to Carleton University where she received her Bachelor of Humanities.
Working in the real estate industry since 1999, Sarah has held positions in property management, building operations, finance, valuation and appraisal. In fact, one of her first jobs was managing the Dow’s Lake Pavilion recreational facility just down the road from the Canoe Bay. In addition to being the Managing Director of Suske Capital, she represents the third generation of Cathraes to work in the seniors housing industry, and she also serves as Asset Manager for Points West Living Limited Partnership.
