For Jim Fullarton, the location of Canoe Bay seems perfect.
“Mooney’s Bay is one of the nicest spots Ottawa has to offer,” extols Jim. “Living in Alta Vista, I run along the Rideau River trails down to Mooney’s Bay almost every day and train on the Terry Fox track in the summer. I drive past our site when I head towards my parent’s home and each time I think to myself ‘We’re going to do something great there’.”
Though born in New Brunswick, Jim is almost native to Ottawa as the family moved to Nepean when he was barely a year old. He recalls with great fondness his school days, playing soccer at Bayview PS with the Nepean Hotspurs, playing hockey for the Nepean Raiders, and skating and tobogganing at Mooney’s Bay and the canal.
Jim attended Carleton University, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering before going to McGill to complete his MBA and subsequently becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He’s held several senior roles in banking, including as Vice President of Strategy and Analysis at RBC, and also at CIBC to assist in the creation of PC Financial. Now a self-proclaimed “semi-retired, self-employed investor” Jim is enthusiastic about Canoe Bay. Since approached by Gary about the concept “we’ve been working non-stop ever since.”
A fitness enthusiast, Jim played soccer with the Ottawa Falcons for several years. He and wife Nathalie enjoy competitive running with race distances ranging from 800m to the marathon and participate in several area races including the Ottawa Race Weekend and the Army Run.
